NTR district aims to gain self-sufficiency in energy sector
NTR district collector Dr G. Lakshmisha
Vijayawada: NTR district collector Dr G. Lakshmisha said on Thursday that the district can be converted into a renewable energy hub with rooftop solar panels. He was speaking during a PM Solar Ghar Free Electricity Scheme awareness rally in Enikepadu, organised by the electricity department and District Rural Development Agency.
The district collector also inspected a solar panel installed by resident R. Veera Raghavaiah under the scheme. This scheme allows a resident to install a 3-kW solar panel system worth ` 2 lakh for ` 78,000 after subsidies. The remaining amount could be availed as a low-interest bank loan. The collector said that households could benefit from approximately 20 years of free solar power.
He added the system can generate up to 300 units of electricity per month, enabling the sale of excess solar power back to the grid. In the last two months, ` 33 lakh have been paid out to beneficiaries as a part of the scheme. Dr Lakshmisha said the initiative aims to achieve 2 lakh connections in the district, with around 60,000 already registering. He urged everyone to take steps towards self-sufficiency in the renewable energy sector.
