North Andhra: 19 Medium Projects Show Uneven Monsoon Gains

Sileru (Guntawada) leads with 85 per cent storage, followed by Raiwada (73 per cent), Thatipudi (70 per cent) and Madduvalasa (68 per cent). These key reservoirs are crucial for Visakhapatnam’s municipal supply and irrigation in adjoining paddy belts: Reports

VISAKHAPATNAM: Nineteen medium reservoirs in the North Andhra region show mixed water levels, according to Andhra Pradesh Water Resources Information and Management System (APWRIMS) data. As of Sunday, four reservoirs are over two-thirds full, nine hold between 45–65 per cent of their capacity, while six remain below the 45 per cent mark.

Sileru (Guntawada) leads with 85 per cent storage, followed by Raiwada (73 per cent), Thatipudi (70 per cent) and Madduvalasa (68 per cent). These key reservoirs are crucial for Visakhapatnam’s municipal supply and irrigation in adjoining paddy belts.

At mid-levels are Pedderu (65 per cent), Varaha (61 per cent), Vengalraya Sagaram (62 per cent), Damodaram Sagaram (60 per cent), and NTR Sagar (58 per cent). Others such as Bhupatipalem (55 per cent), Konam (53 per cent), Surampalem (50 per cent), Vattigedda (48 per cent) and Ahra (44 per cent) continue to support irrigation and groundwater recharge.

Reservoirs under stress include Maddigedda (42 per cent), Mehadrigadda (38 per cent), Gajjiligedda (40 per cent), Peddagedda (46 per cent), and Narayanapuram anicut (35 per cent). Experts warn that persistent deficits here could trigger controlled distribution, affecting drinking water and lift-irrigation schemes in highland and tribal habitations.
