He said irrigation water would be released to the 53,000-acre ayacut under the Purushothapatnam Lift Irrigation Scheme from July 19.

Kakinada:Kakinada district collector M.N. Harindhra Prasad on Tuesday assured farmers that there would be no shortage of irrigation water for the Kharif season under the Yeleru Reservoir ayacut despite the impact of El Niño.
He said irrigation water would be released to the 53,000-acre ayacut under the Purushothapatnam Lift Irrigation Scheme from July 19.
The collector said 300 cusecs of water was already being released into the Pithapuram branch canal to irrigate around 20,000 acres. He added that 4,900 cusecs of water was being drawn from the Dowleswaram Barrage to irrigate about 10,000 acres under the RRB tank, while 50 cusecs would be supplied to the Thimmaraju Tank.
Harindhra Prasad said water would be released to the Pampa Reservoir during the first week of August. Discussions were also under way with neighbouring districts to ensure water supply under the Tandava Reservoir.
He added that there was no shortage of fertilisers for the Kharif season.
