Nine-Foot Indian Rock Python Rescued During Desilting Works

Kakinada:A nine-foot-long Indian Rock Python weighing nearly 20 kg was rescued from the Yanamadurru canal area in Bhimavaram of West Godavari district during desilting operations on Saturday.
Forest department personnel and trained Sarpa Mitra-Vajra volunteers safely captured the reptile and later released it into its natural habitat.
Officials said the rescued snake is a Schedule-I protected species under wildlife protection laws.
The incident highlighted the need for vigilance and wildlife protection during developmental and maintenance activities, particularly in areas close to natural habitats.
Authorities appealed to the public to immediately inform the forest department or recognised wildlife rescue teams if wild animals are sighted, enabling their safe rescue and conservation.
