Nimmala Reviews Krishna Water Diversion to Nallamala Sagar
The minister directed officials to submit a check memo and complete arrangements to divert water to the reservoir during the third week of August.
VIJAYAWADA: Water resources minister Nimmala Ramanaidu on Friday reviewed preparations for diverting Krishna river water to the Nallamala Sagar Reservoir and the progress of the Veligonda project during a video conference with Irrigation Special Chief Secretary Sashi Bhushan Kumar and senior officials.
The minister directed officials to submit a check memo and complete arrangements to divert water to the reservoir during the third week of August.
Officials informed the meeting that the approach channel for diverting Krishna water through the Kollam Vagu tunnels had been cleared. The remaining 286 metres of lining work in the two tunnels is expected to be completed within 10 days, while removal of the tunnel boring machine (TBM) stuck in Tunnel-2 is likely to be completed within a week.
Ramanaidu criticised the previous YSRC government for failing to remove the TBM during its five-year tenure.
Reviewing the Veligonda project, the minister said compensation of ₹318 crore had been paid to 2,560 of the 7,321 project-affected families. He directed officials to release the remaining Rs 210 crore to 1,898 families by the end of this month.
