NHM Staff Told Not to Change Bank Accounts Unnecessarily

Officials said delays in updating bank account details and completing Aadhaar seeding could hold up salary payments for thousands of employees covered under a single bill.

Vijayawada:Andhra Pradesh health and family welfare commissioner K.V.N. Chakradhar Babu has advised National Health Mission (NHM) employees against changing their bank accounts without a valid reason, warning that doing so before Aadhaar seeding is completed could delay salary payments.

The commissioner directed district medical and health authorities to take measures to prevent such problems. NHM salaries are credited directly to Aadhaar-linked bank accounts through the Aadhaar-based Payment System (ABPS) and Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mechanism.

Once salary bills are processed, the eligible amount is electronically transferred to the bank account linked to the employee’s Aadhaar. However, some employees have reportedly been changing their bank accounts before completing Aadhaar seeding, resulting in technical problems in payments.

Officials said delays in updating bank account details and completing Aadhaar seeding could hold up salary payments for thousands of employees covered under a single bill. The disruption is estimated to be affecting payments involving around `60–70 crore.

They said identifying and rectifying mismatches between Aadhaar and bank account details takes time, resulting in delays in salary payments.

Employees have been advised not to change their bank accounts unless absolutely necessary. If a change is unavoidable, they should first ensure that Aadhaar seeding is completed for the new account and then update the account details in their employment records.

They have also been asked to verify that their name, account number and other details in bank records match those in their employment records.
