New Delhi-Rajahmundry Airbus service launched

KAKINADA: Union civil aviation minister K. Rammohan Naidu, along with MP D. Purandeswari, launched the Airbus service to New Delhi from Rajamahendravaram Airport on Thursday.
The two flew into Rajamahendravaram from Delhi in the Airbus, which airport authorities welcomed by showering it with water, as is the custom.
Rammohan Naidu announced that new air services will be launched soon from Rajamahendravaram to Tirupati, Shirdi, Ahmadabad, Jaipur and Varanasi. Facilities at the airport too will improve once the new terminal at the airport is completed soon.
The civil aviation minister underlined that people of Rajamahendravaram and Godavari districts need not go to other airports but fly directly to New Delhi or Mumbai for going abroad.
Rammohan Naidu underlined that India had mere 74 airports in India during 2014. But their number has now risen to 158. Another 50 new airports will be coming up in the country during the next five years, he declared.
The civil aviation minister said people are now flying more, as they want to save their time to develop their business or career.
Rajamahendravaram MP Purandeswari stressed the need for launching new services to all cities and towns in the country from Rajamahendravaram, which is developing economically.
Lok Sabha member Tangella Uday Srinivas said that he has proposed an airport for Kakinada district, with Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan representing the Pithapuram constituency. He said appropriate land is being identified for establishing the airport.
MLAs Jyothula Nehru, N. Ramakrishna Reddy, Gorantla Buchaiah Chowdary, Adireddy Srinivas, M. Venkata Raju, B. Bala Ramakrishna, M. Venkata Raju and RUDA chairman Boddu Venkata Ramana Chowdary were among those present.
