Spiritual Fervour Grips Nellore as Chariot Festival Draws Devotees

Nellore: A vibrant wave of devotion swept through Buchireddypalem, about 16 km from Nellore city in Andhra Pradesh, as thousands of devotees participated in the grand chariot festival or the Rathotsavam held at the historic Sri Kodanda Rama Swamy temple on Thursday. Kovur legislator Vemireddy Prashanthi Reddy also took part in the procession.
The event, a key part of the annual Brahmotsavams, unfolded with spiritual splendour at the nearly 250-year-old shrine. Undeterred by the sweltering summer heat and a delayed start, devotees enthusiastically pulled the beautifully adorned chariot while chanting “Jai Sri Ram”, creating an electrifying devotional atmosphere.
The town resonated with spiritual energy as residents extended warm hospitality by offering buttermilk, drinking water, and food at makeshift distribution points across the streets. The temple, known for its towering Raja Gopuram rising nearly 100 feet, bears architectural resemblance to ancient Tamil Nadu shrines.
Temple trustee Dodla Muralikrishna Reddy supervised the arrangements, while Bezawada Naresh Chandra Reddy guided devotees to pull the chariot in an orderly manner. A police team, led by Nellore Rural DSP Ghattamaneni Srinivasa Rao and CI M. Srinivasa Rao, made elaborate security arrangements to prevent any untoward incidents.
