Nellore Sanitation Staff Call Off 14-Day Strike
NMC commissioner Y.O. Nandan announced the end of the strike late on Tuesday evening following assurance that their key demands will be considered.

Nellore: Sanitation workers of the Nellore Municipal Corporation (NMC) have called off their 14 days’ old strike on Tuesday following negotiations in the presence of Nellore Rural MLA Kotamreddy Sridhar Reddy and intervention of Urban Development minister P. Narayana.
NMC commissioner Y.O. Nandan announced the end of the strike late on Tuesday evening following assurance that their key demands will be considered.
The strike started after the municipal corporation introduced contract-based sanitation system in Division 9 as a pilot project.
Nandan stated that the contract system will be scrapped. A new plan will be discussed soon in a meeting between the minister and union leaders.
The city struggled due to uncollected garbage during the strike period.
Union leaders Moolam Ramesh, Madala Venkateswarlu, Katti Srinivasulu, and Penchala Narasayya participated in the discussions and welcomed the government’s assurances.
The return of workers to duties is expected to restore cleanliness in the city after two weeks of disruption.
