Nellore Plans ₹ 4,000-Crore Credit Outreach

The collector also suggested that each bank adopt a village and build stronger ties with local communities

NELLORE: Nellore district is planning a credit outreach programme to extend loans of up to `4,000 crore, with a focus on agriculture, employment, education and business development.

Nellore MP Vemireddy Prabhakar Reddy has called upon bankers and officials to prepare a comprehensive plan for the programme on the lines of the recent credit outreach held at Narasaraopet, where loans worth `3,000 crore were reportedly extended.

Addressing the District Level Bankers’ Committee and District Level Review Committee meetings at the collectorate on Tuesday, Prabhakar Reddy said banks should look beyond a purely business-oriented approach and play a meaningful role in improving people’s livelihoods and living standards.

District collector Himanshu Shukla, who presided over the meeting, said efforts would be made to mobilise `4,000 crore in loans through the outreach programme with the support of the State Level Bankers’ Committee.

He urged banks to increase lending to agriculture and allied sectors, particularly for modern farm equipment such as harvesters, tractors, drones and balers.

The collector also suggested that each bank adopt a village and build stronger ties with local communities. He asked bankers to prepare for the outreach programme, proposed to be held in December or January, and achieve the targeted lending goals.
