NELLORE: A couple was killed and their five-year-old grandson injured in a road accident on NH-565 near the MRO Office at Varikuntapadu on Monday morning.
Police said the accident occurred around 9 am when a car travelling from Pamur towards Nellore allegedly attempted to overtake a lorry, entered the opposite lane and collided head-on with a motorcycle.
The victims, Jayampu Vengaiah, 50, and his wife Jayampu Tirupatamma, 45, of Raghunadhapuram village in Botlagudur mandal, suffered severe injuries.
Their grandson Nikhil, 5, was also injured.
All three were shifted to the Community Health Centre at Udayagiri, where doctors declared the couple brought dead. The child is undergoing treatment.
Varikuntapadu police registered a case and launched an investigation.
