Nellore Among 157 ULBs Selected For NAKSHA Project

Nellore Municipal Corporation is one of only 10 ULBs chosen from Andhra Pradesh, a recognition that municipal commissioner Y.O. Nandan called it a moment of pride for the city.

Nellore: In a major step toward modern urban governance, the Government of India has selected 157 Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) across the country for pilot phase of the NAKSHA (National Knowledge-Based Land Survey of Habitations) programme — a digitally driven land survey initiative using advanced technologies like GIS and drones.

Nellore Municipal Corporation is one of only 10 ULBs chosen from Andhra Pradesh, a recognition that municipal commissioner Y.O. Nandan called it a moment of pride for the city.

Speaking at a training session for survey teams at the Corporation’s Command Control Centre, the commissioner explained that NAKSHA is being implemented by the department of land resources under the ministry of rural development to create accurate, geo-referenced, and updated land records in urban areas.

He emphasised that the survey will help bring transparency in property ownership and tax collection, support better planning of infrastructure, and help protect government lands from encroachment. It will also strengthen e-governance services by providing verified, digital property data.

The commissioner urged citizens of Nellore to fully support the survey teams, who will visit neighborhoods carrying valid identification. Property owners are requested to provide accurate details and documents related to their land and assets.

This effort, he noted, will also help reduce property disputes by clarifying ownership boundaries and will be useful in resolving legal issues. All collected data will be securely stored in digital form and prioritised in official records.

The commissioner concluded by calling on the people of Nellore to actively contribute to this transformative effort, saying that the NAKSHA project is a key step in making Nellore a transparent, progressive, and fully digital city.
