Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh BJP Kisan Morcha state president Chigurupati Kumara Swamy on Wednesday said natural and organic farming was crucial for farmers’ livelihoods, soil health and food security.
Addressing the media at the BJP state office here, he said excessive dependence on chemical fertilisers and pesticides over the years had increased cultivation costs, degraded soil fertility and contributed to health issues. To address this, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been promoting natural farming as a nationwide movement.
Mr Kumara Swamy said the Centre is supporting chemical-free cultivation through schemes such as the Paramparagat Krishi Vikas Yojana, Bharatiya Prakritik Krishi Paddhati and the National Mission for Sustainable Agriculture, which offer training, certification, market linkages and better prices for organic produce.
He said the NDA government in Andhra Pradesh is extending technical support, field-level training and marketing assistance through Farmer Producer Organisations and digital platforms such as e-NAM.
As part of the initiative, the BJP Kisan Morcha will organise a Natural Farmers’ Conclave on January 3 in Vijayawada to discuss all aspects of natural farming, from soil health to marketing. Awareness programmes will also be held across districts to mentor youth and women farmers, he added.
