Visakhapatnam: Municipal and Urban Development minister P. Narayana announced that construction of Metro in Visakhapatnam will start in October this year.

Participating in a detailed review meeting with state and district officials, the minister confirmed that a detailed project report (DPR) for the double-decker metro has been prepared. Additionally, there are plans to build a semi-ring road, similar to the one in Hyderabad, to improve traffic flow and connectivity throughout Visakhapatnam.

Those who attended the review meeting included MSME minister Kondapalli Srinivas, Assembly speaker Chintakayala Ayyannapatrudu, VMRDA chairman Pranav Gopal, Vizag mayor Peela Srinivas, Vizianagaram MP Kalisetty Appalanaidu, government whip Ganababu, and TD state president and Gajuwaka MLA Palla Srinivasa Rao, apart from MLAs and officials.

Their discussions covered multiple aspects of regional development, including VMRDA infrastructure, Metropolitan Jurisdiction Map for the Visakhapatnam-Kakinada Petroleum, Chemicals and Petrochemicals Investment Region Urban Development Authority, and key issues within the Master Plan 2041.

Other topics included coastal erosion projects, comprehensive development plans for Kailasagiri and Rushikonda, and implementation of 4/6/8 Road Lens Axis Semi Ring Road from Bhogapuram to Rambilli using Value Capture Finance.

Bhogapuram Airport figured in the discussions. Minister Narayana said 22 roads have been proposed to connect the airport, which is expected to be completed by April next year. 15 of these roads are already in progress. Plans for the remaining six are being developed in collaboration with the National Highways Authority.

Additional discussions focused on improving water supply through the Amrut scheme with an allocation of ₹834 crore. Proposals have also been made to complete the GVMC water pipeline system and increase waste transportation resources in hilly areas.
Meanwhile, Jana Sena corporator Peethala Murthy Yadav submitted a petition to minister Narayana, urging him to appoint a municipal commissioner for GVMC soon, as the post has remained vacant for four months now. He sought cancellation of illegal Transfer of Development Rights (TDRs) worth hundreds of crores that had been okayed by the YSRC government.
