Naidu’s P4 Call Gets Great Response, Industrialist Offers Rs 10 Crore

Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu appreciates industrialist Karumanchi Prasad’s support for the Kummamuru lift irrigation project.

Vijayawada: Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu’s initiative P4 (Public-Private-People-Partnership) to wipe out poverty in the state by seeking financial support from industrialists and others, has started receiving an overwhelming response, with people pledging support to it.

Industrialist Karumanchi Prasad of Prasad Seeds in Guntur district has offered to take up construction of Kummamuru lift irrigation project with his own funds. In this regard, Prasad announced a donation of Rs 10 crore for the project at a programme held at Muppala village in Chandarlapadu mandal of NTR district on Saturday.

Naidu appreciated industrialist Prasad for his generosity in coming forward to help farmers of his native area. He expressed confidence that like Prasad, many people from various sections of the society will come forward to extend support to the P4 initiative.

The CM directed water resources officials to prepare a detailed project report for the Kummamuru lift irrigation scheme and grant necessary approvals expeditiously. He asked officials to ensure proper coordination in taking up the project with the financial support pledged by industrialist Prasad.

It may be mentioned that farmers in Kakumanu mandal in Guntur district have been facing trouble in getting water for cultivating crops, even though water is available in the Kommamuru canal. This is because tail-end areas are not getting adequate quantities of water.

Once the Kummamuru lift scheme is constructed, it will help provide sufficient water to nearly 5,315 acres in villages like Kakumanu, B.K. Palem, Appapuram, Garikapadu and Kondapavuluru for cultivation of crops. This will also help supply drinking water to people living in the Kakumanu mandal.

The Kummamuru lift scheme project involves developing a 100 feet wide canal to carry 100 cusecs of water across a 10 km stretch to the tail-end areas. It is said, if necessary, the state government will also provide necessary funds to complete the project.
