Naidu To Set Stone for Google AI Data Centre in Ziag on April 28
Google to invest $15B, boosting Visakhapatnam as AI hub

Vijayawada: Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu will lay the foundation stone for a Google AI Data Centre in Visakhapatnam on April 28, in what officials described as a major step in Andhra Pradesh’s technology push.
The project, backed by Google, involves an investment of $15 billion and is expected to be among the largest foreign direct investments in India’s technology sector. With a planned capacity of one gigawatt, the facility is set to be one of the most advanced AI-driven data centres in Asia.
Officials said the project would place Visakhapatnam on the global technology map and position it as a key AI and cloud infrastructure hub for Asia. The centre is expected to provide large-scale data storage and advanced cloud services.
Spread across nearly 600 acres in Tharluwada, Adavivaram and Rambilli regions, the project has been facilitated under the state government’s ‘Speed of Doing Business’ policy to attract major investments. Strategic partnerships with firms such as AdaniConneX and Airtel Nxtra are also expected to strengthen the initiative.
A major feature of the project is the proposed subsea cable connectivity system, which will provide direct digital links between Visakhapatnam and several countries. Officials said the city’s coastal location made it ideal for a submarine cable landing station, improving international digital connectivity.
The state government has also outlined plans to build a multi-gigawatt digital ecosystem with a target capacity of 6.5 gigawatts, aiming to make Andhra Pradesh a leading destination for hyperscale data infrastructure.
Officials said the project would create thousands of jobs in artificial intelligence, cloud computing, cyber security, data science and maintenance operations. It is also expected to boost allied sectors such as power systems, cooling technologies, server manufacturing and network infrastructure.
Industry experts said the availability of advanced AI cloud services could attract IT start-ups, research institutions, semiconductor firms and global cloud companies to the region.
The government is also working to ensure a reliable supply of green energy for the project, in line with sustainability goals. Infrastructure projects such as the upcoming Bhogapuram International Airport are expected to further enhance Visakhapatnam’s connectivity and investor appeal.
Officials said the Google AI Data Centre would be a key milestone in Andhra Pradesh’s bid to emerge as a global technology hub.
