Naidu To Release Matsyakarula Sevalo Funds To Benefit 1,30,796 Fishermen Families Tomorrow

Amaravati: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu will formally release Matsyakarula Sevalo funds at a programme to be held in Thummalapenta village of Kavali Mandal of Nellore district tomorrow (May 19) to benefit 1,30,796 fishermen families.The Government is continuing its support to fishermen families across the State during the annual fishing ban period to ensure families do not face hardship during the no-fishing season.

The government will deposit Rs 262 crore directly into the bank accounts of 1,30,796 fishermen families across the State.

Every year, a 61-day fishing ban is observed from April 15 to June 14 to allow marine species to breed. During this period, fishing activities in the sea are suspended. To ensure fishermen families do not face livelihood difficulties, the government is providing Rs 20,000 financial assistance per family.

In total, the government has provided Rs 505 crore assistance in two years to fishermen families during the fishing ban period. Despite financial challenges, the coalition government has prioritized welfare for weaker sections by doubling assistance to Rs 20,000, reaffirming its commitment to the welfare of fisherfolk. The increase in beneficiary numbers and continuation of support for a second year underline the government’s commitment to fishermen welfare.

The government has also taken steps to ensure that families of fishermen who lose their lives in accidents while fishing.

Rs 3.15 crore was paid for 63 insurance claims during 2024–25 and Rs 5.65 crore was released for 113 pending claims during 2025–26.

In addition, the government is promoting seaweed cultivation to improve livelihood opportunities and enhance fishermen incomes.
