Naidu Spreading Falsehoods on Housing for Poor: Kakani

YSRC leader says houses built under Jagan regime are being passed off as new

Nellore: Former minister and YSRC president of the erstwhile Nellore district Dr Kakani Govardhan Reddy, on Sunday, accused Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu of spreading false propaganda on housing for the poor and claiming credit for houses built during the previous YSRC regime.

Addressing a press conference at the YSRC district office in Nellore, Kakani said housing under former chief minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy was implemented “like a mission”, with house sites, full-fledged colonies and basic infrastructure provided to beneficiaries.

He alleged that no new houses had been constructed in the last 18 months under the present government and that claims of large-scale housewarming programmes were misleading. The YSRC, he said, conducted a district-level case study using field data and information obtained under the Right to Information Act.

Citing housing department figures, Kakani said that in urban areas, 2,838 houses were sanctioned but construction had not begun in 2,824 cases, while only 14 houses had reached the foundation stage without fund release. In rural areas under PMAY, only 44 houses were proposed, with just one completed and Rs 12 lakh released.

He questioned how the Chief Minister could claim completion of 19,678 houses in Nellore district with such limited expenditure. Kakani alleged that housing works were stalled after the coalition government came to power in the name of vigilance inquiries, leaving poor families without shelter.

He said the YSRC government developed Jagananna Colonies on valuable land and provided permanent housing, while the present government failed to ensure even basic amenities. Accusing Naidu of prioritising Amaravati and personal luxuries over welfare, Kakani demanded an end to what he called false publicity and urged the government to focus on actual housing delivery for the poor.
