Naidu Seeks Centre’s Help for AP Chilli Farmers

Naidu urged the central government to ensure that the “losses incurred by farmers are compensated, especially through market interventions that can offset the reduction in prices.

Vijayawada: Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu has called upon the central government to take immediate steps to support AP’s chilli farmers.

In a letter to Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Naidu emphasized the need for intervention to stabilize the prices that are now on a decline in the market.

Naidu urged the central government to ensure that the “losses incurred by farmers are compensated, especially through market interventions that can offset the reduction in prices.” He highlighted the importance of recognizing the gap between cultivation costs and selling prices. The central government, he said, must bear 100 per cent of the losses instead of the current 50 per cent compensation ratio.

Taking into account the financial challenges the farmers faced, the CM stressed the need for a robust support system to safeguard farmer interests. He presented a detailed account of chilli production and pricing over the past decade, underlining the adverse impact that fluctuating market prices have had on farmers in the region.

Naidu appealed to the Centre to address the issues to ensure the sustainability of chilli farming in the state.
