TIRUPATI: Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday said Krishna water would be extended to 418 minor irrigation tanks in Kuppam constituency at an estimated cost of ₹439.64 crore to strengthen irrigation and drinking water security and improve green cover.

c. He said the arrival of Krishna water fulfilled a long-standing demand of Kuppam residents and would provide a permanent solution to the region’s water needs.
He said assured water availability would strengthen agriculture, industries and the rural economy.
The Kuppam Branch Canal begins at the 207.800-km point of the Punganur Branch Canal, runs for 131.2 km and ends at Paramasamudram tank near Kuppam. The canal was designed to supply 110 minor irrigation tanks in Palamaner and Kuppam constituencies and stabilise an ayacut of 6,300 acres.
Last year, Krishna water entered the branch canal from the Punganur Branch Canal on August 21 and reached Paramasamudram tank on August 25. Naidu said 133 tanks were subsequently filled, exceeding the target of 110.
“Last year, 2.4 TMC of water was released into Kuppam, raising groundwater levels by around three metres and reviving dried up borewells", he said.
The Chief Minister directed officials to connect all feasible minor irrigation tanks in Kuppam to the canal system. The proposed plan covers 96 tanks in Gudupalle at `207.14 crore, 128 in Ramakuppam at `101.83 crore, 87 in Santhipuram at `78 crore and 107 in Kuppam at `63.57 crore.
A 200 million cubic feet Kalivanaka reservoir has also been proposed in Gudupalle mandal to meet the water needs of the industrial area. Naidu said the government was working to develop Kuppam as an integrated constituency by strengthening water resources, agriculture, industry, infrastructure and employment.
Earlier, he laid the foundation stone for a reservoir at Beeraganipalle and announced reservoirs at Yamiganipalle and in the Madanapalle region.
Meanwhile, Naidu interacted with poultry farmers and discussed the sector’s growth potential and ways to improve their incomes. He said a large number of environmentally controlled poultry sheds would be established in Kuppam as a pilot initiative to help farmers expand their units into MSMEs.
He said the government was working with IB Group on the project and would provide real-time approvals. The special poultry policy would also promote allied sectors such as dairy, horticulture and sericulture, he added.
Naidu said rising demand for chicken and eggs would create further opportunities for poultry farmers. He said improved road and rail connectivity would help transport poultry products to markets, while Kuppam’s proximity to Bengaluru offered additional opportunities.
