Naidu Hands Over Rs.200 Cr Compensation Cheque to Veligonda Project Evacuees

With this, the government has so far paid a total of Rs 518 crore in compensation

Amaravati: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday handed over a cheque for Rs 200 crore as compensation to the representatives of Veligonda project displaced families.

With this, the government has so far paid a total of Rs 518 crore in compensation, an official release said. "CM Naidu handed over Rs 200 crore compensation cheque to representatives of Veligonda project displaced families at the Assembly premises today," it said.

The latest compensation supplements the Rs 300 crore already provided on June 27 to more than 2,550 evacuee families. The government recognises the sacrifices made by farmers and displaced families for the construction of major irrigation projects, the CM said.
He assured that the remaining compensation amount would also be released soon, adding that the government stood by Veligonda displaced families and extended support to them. As many as 1,600 displaced families benefited through the compensation distributed today.
The government is also providing infrastructural facilities in seven rehabilitation colonies for the displaced families, the release said.
Infrastructure works have already been completed in six colonies, except in Vemulakota, resulting in the displaced families gradually moving into the houses constructed for them in the Resettlement and Rehabilitation (R&R) colonies, it added.
