Naidu Hails Completion of Key Diaphragm Wall at Polavaram Project
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister says rapid advance on the Polavaram dam will accelerate main works, aiming for full completion ahead of the 2027 Pushkaralu.
Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday praised the state government’s determination to complete the vital Polavaram irrigation project, announcing the successful construction of the 1,372‑meter diaphragm wall, a crucial component of the dam’s structure. This milestone, achieved in a short period, was lauded by CM Naidu, who congratulated officials from the irrigation department and engineers for their efforts and thanked central agencies and project authority representatives for their support.
Naidu noted that delays and damage to the diaphragm wall during previous administrations required additional investment, including about ₹1,000 crore for reconstruction. With this key section now complete, the main Earth‑cum‑Rock‑Fill (ECRF) dam works are expected to pick up pace. The Chief Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to finishing all project works well before the 2027 Pushkaralu, dedicating the achievement to the people of the state.
