Naidu Directs Swift Cyclone Arnab Damage Assessment and Relief
Naidu said the government machinery was working relentlessly to tackle the situation

Hyderabad: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday said the government machinery should utilize technology to quickly prepare estimates of damage caused due to cyclone Arnab.
Speaking during a teleconference, he said the government machinery was working relentlessly to tackle the situation. The government should inform the public about the work being done from time to time. Only then will cooperation be obtained from the public.
Stating that various schemes should be implemented to compensate the agricultural and horticultural farmers affected by the cyclone, Naidu said the government machinery should extend services until normalcy is restored in the storm-affected areas.
Officials must explore the possibility of replanting trees and various horticultural crops, including coconut trees. They should also look into aspects to what extent submerged crops can be saved.
Agricultural officials, scientists and students should study this and what measures can be taken to prevent crop damage, he explained.
“We have tried to reduce the loss of life and property due to Cyclone Arnab as much as possible. We have taken precautions to prevent ponds and canals from becoming flooded,” Naidu said, adding that the uprooted trees have already been removed.
“If there are still trees uprooted on the roads, they should be removed immediately. The garbage accumulated due to the cyclone should also be removed. Power supply should be restored in all areas by tomorrow. We have issued a GO on issues related to compensation,” he said.
Andhra Pradesh is facing different weather conditions. Rayalaseema region is facing the impact of El Nino and there is no favourable condition for farming activity. The people in coastal Andhra were facing the problem because of cyclone Arnab.
The existing crops and coconut trees in East Godavari and West Godavari districts were damaged owing to cyclone impact. Thus, the authorities should act effectively in both the regions and extend support to the people.
