Naidu Calls for Quantum-Driven Research to Combat Rising Cancer Burden

Vijayawada:Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday stressed the need for quantum-driven research in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology sectors, noting that environmental factors such as pollution have contributed to the rising incidence of cancer.
He said early detection through advanced technologies and precision treatment would significantly improve patient outcomes.
The chief minister was speaking after witnessing the signing of a pact between the state government and AstraZeneca India for setting up an Integrated Genomic Solutions Centre in Amaravati, a first-of-its-kind initiative in the country aimed at establishing an integrated precision oncology research and treatment ecosystem.
The agreement was signed by representatives of the health department and AstraZeneca India in the presence of Naidu. The project will be implemented in collaboration with Reliance-backed Strand Life Sciences and Qure.ai.
The centre will provide advanced genomic and biomarker testing for lung and breast cancer patients, enabling early diagnosis and personalised treatment based on an individual's genetic profile. The initiative will leverage artificial intelligence, next-generation sequencing and advanced genomic technologies to deliver precision oncology services.
As part of the programme, AI-enabled X-ray screening systems for early detection of lung cancer will be installed in government hospitals, facilitating faster screening, accurate diagnosis and timely treatment.
Naidu said the partnership aims to make cutting-edge healthcare accessible to all citizens. He emphasised that healthcare systems should increasingly adopt predictive, preventive and curative approaches.
Referring to the state's Sanjeevani project, he said Andhra Pradesh is creating digital health profiles for every citizen to accelerate the transformation of healthcare delivery.
The CM also expressed confidence that Amaravati's Quantum Valley would emerge as a major hub for research on cancer and other diseases through collaborations with leading global pharmaceutical, biotechnology and technology companies.
Chief secretary Sai Prasad, AstraZeneca India managing director Praveen Rao, representatives of Strand Life Sciences and Qure.ai, and others were present.
