Naidu Assures 100% Government Job Quota to Local Tribes in Agency Areas
The AP CM criticised the previous YSR Congress regime for failing in filing a proper review petition in the Supreme Court, resulting in striking down of GO No. 3.

Vijayawada: Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu on Monday announced that the NDA coalition government is committed to provide cent per cent reservation in government jobs to local tribal people in agency areas of Andhra Pradesh.
Addressing a review meeting on tribal welfare with senior officials at the Secretariat here, Chandrababu Naidu pointed out that in 1986, the Telugu Desam government had issued a GO providing 100 per cent reservation in teacher posts to the local tribal people in the agency areas.
Following legal complications and rise in percentage of reservations for women, the TD government issued another GO No. 3 in 2000, which helped 4,626 Adivasi become government teachers in agency areas. However, some people moved the courts against GO No. 3. Supreme Court revoked the GO in 2020.
The AP CM criticised the previous YSR Congress regime for failing in filing a proper review petition in the Supreme Court, resulting in striking down of GO No. 3.
Recalling his poll promise of reviving GO No. 3 or to provide benefit to tribal people on similar lines, Chandrababu Naidu asked officials to examine how legal hurdles in providing reservations to the Adivasi could be overcome. He directed officials to hold discussions with tribal unions in this regard.
Officials explained to the Chief Minister that there are three options on the issue. The first is to provide 100 per cent reservation to local tribal persons in agency areas, which have an overwhelming tribal population. Second is to provide reservation to local tribes based on their population. The third option is to go by the Supreme Court verdict and provide reservations to Adivasi, though not exceeding 50 per cent.
However, Chandrababu Naidu remained firm on ensuring the rights of tribal people in agency areas to the full extent, either by reviving GO No. 3 or by providing justice along similar lines.
The Chief Minister made it clear that no chance must be lost in providing total justice to the tribal people by providing them all facilities, including government employment, apart from special opportunities to improve their living standards.
