Naidu Announces Rs.20,000 Financial Assistance to Fisherfolk During Fishing Ban
‘I have come to understand your problems,’ Naidu tells fishermen
Visakhapatnam: “I have come to Budagatlapalem to hear your problems myself and understand how I can improve your lives,” the Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu told the fishermen During his visit to Budagatlapalem in Etcherla constituency of Srikakulam district
Launching the Matchakarula Sevalo scheme for the welfare of fishermen, Naidu announced that Rs.20,000 financial assistance will be given to the fishermen during the fishing ban period. Additionally, he pledged Rs.15,000 under Talliki Vandanam for every child, so that fishing families can send their children to school without facing any financial strain. He assured the fishing community that the long-awaited fishing harbour will be completed soon.
Naidu engaged directly with the local fishing community, addressing their concerns and announcing significant welfare measures.
In particular, the Chief Minister spoke to Polesh and Ramalakshmi, who highlighted the challenges faced by the 600 families in the village, which rely on fishing. They expressed safety concerns, citing incidents of boats capsizing in high waves. They emphasised on the urgent need for a fishing harbour to reduce accidents and facilitate safer fishing.
Later, Chandrababu Naidu met fishermen Kari Rambabu, Seetogya and Errayya, who shared their struggles while fishing during night and the risks involved. They said establishment of the fishing harbour and an ice factory could boost their income by 50 per cent, apart from creating job opportunities in nearby villages.
The Chief Minister interacted with traders of dry fish Lakshmamma, Seethamma and Paidamma, inquiring about their drying methods and daily earnings.
He later visited the community hall, where he interacted with boat repairers Mylapalli Pothuraj and Rambabu. He inspected ice boxes and fishing nets to understand the fishing community's challenges better.
