Mustabu Initiative Benefits 70 Lakh Students Across AP: Minister
BC Welfare Minister Savitha links personal grooming with academic success

Vijayawada: BC and EWS Welfare minister S. Savitha on Monday underlined that the Mustabu initiative is helping 70 lakh students of government schools in Andhra Pradesh maintain personal hygiene, “which is as vital as academic excellence.”
Launching the Mustabu (Grooming) programme at the Mahatma Jyotiba Phule (MJP) Residential School at Mopidevi in Krishna district, the minister said under the initiative, grooming kits are being provided to students, apart from creating awareness among them about personal hygiene.
Along with Avanigadda MLA Mandali Buddha Prasad, Savitha made it a point to check the fingernails of students, apart from neatness of their uniforms. She inquired about the frequency of health check-ups and implementation of the ‘Thalliki Vandanam’ scheme.
To personally verify the food quality, the minister sat on the floor with students and shared their breakfast. She went on to inspect the facilities at the MJP school, including the RO water plant and the kitchen. Expressing general satisfaction, she directed kitchen staff to improve the quality of specific dishes.
Addressing the assembled gathering on the occasion, Savitha asserted that MJP gurukuls have become a premier "brand" of quality education. "Our Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy CM K. Pawan Kalyan are focused on providing corporate-level facilities to the poor. As someone who rose from a government school to become a minister, I want you students to dream big," she declared.
The minister set an ambitious target for the institution of 100 per cent pass rate and at least 10 students to secure seats in IITs this year.
Responding to MLA Buddha Prasad’s request, she promised the swift release of funds for eight additional classrooms at the MJP school in Mopidevi. Buddha Prasad praised the Mustabu initiative, saying cleanliness gradually leads to mental clarity and inculcates self-respect.
Those present on the occasion included BC Welfare director Mallikarjuna and other officials.
