Must Undertake Field Visits to Improve Public Service Delivery: Naidu

Naidu stressed the need for greater accountability and vigilance across the administrative machinery

Amaravati: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu directed all government officials to undertake mandatory field visits to strengthen governance and improve public service delivery.

Reviewing the performance of various departments through the Real Time Governance Society (RTGS) at the Secretariat, the CM stressed the need for greater accountability and vigilance across the administrative machinery.

He instructed officials to make field inspections mandatory from June onwards and emphasised that every officer, from senior administrators to field-level functionaries, must actively engage with people on the ground, said an official release.
"Naidu has made it clear that all government officials must undertake regular field visits to strengthen governance and improve public service delivery," it said late on Wednesday.
According to the TDP supremo, field visits will help officials understand problems firsthand and build public confidence. From July onwards, every official must visit the field and spend three days a week on field visits.
The Chief Minister reiterated that district collectors should visit every Assembly constituency four times, while constituency nodal officers should visit the same mandal four times a month, the release said.
The performance of officials and employees would be evaluated through a comprehensive 360-degree assessment system. Referring to global best practices, Naidu underscored that Singapore has adopted several innovative governance models.
He urged the administration to study and adapt suitable administrative practices from the city-state located at the tip of the Malay Peninsula.
Reviewing road maintenance work, Naidu said 11,600 potholes have been identified across municipalities in the state, out of which 79 percent have already been repaired.
He called for the pending road repair works to be completed quickly. Underlining the role of technology in governance, the CM said Google has agreed to partner with the state in advancing data-driven governance initiatives.
"The Commercial Taxes Department is already working with Google. Similar collaborations should be extended to other departments as well," he said.
Further, he instructed officials to expedite the redressal of grievances received through the Public Grievance Redressal System (PGRS).
Citizens should be able to track their complaints independently, he said. A transparent tracking mechanism must be developed so that applicants can clearly understand the status and progress of their grievances and know how far their complaints have been addressed," he added.
