Muslims Seek Easy Procedure for Getting Marriage Certificates

Kaleem went on to charge that while issuing time slots for issuing marriage certificates, registrars are giving dates to Hindu community people within 2–3 days. However, when it comes to Muslims, dates given are distant.

Vijayawada: Muslim United Front (MUF) and Muslim Welfare Joint Action Committee (MWJAC) have requested the central government to liberalise the procedure of getting marriage certificates from authorities with regard to Muslims, which should be on the lines of Hindu community members getting their certificates.

In a letter to External Affairs minister S. Jaishankar, MUF and MWJAC president Md. Kaleem said passport authorities must accept marriage certificates issued by the Wakf Board for issuing passports.

The minority leader pointed out that passport offices are seeking joint photographs of both husband and wife for issuing passports. However, marriage certificates issued by Wakf Board do not have the photographs of the married couple. Thus, their applications are not being entertained.

Kaleem went on to charge that while issuing time slots for issuing marriage certificates, registrars are giving dates to Hindu community people within 2–3 days. However, when it comes to Muslims, dates given are distant.

He thus sought that the procedure for issuing marriage certificates to Muslim minorities be liberalised. He hoped that Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, minority welfare minister N.M.D. Farooq and adviser to the government on minority affairs Mohammad Shareef will take up the matter with the central government and resolve the issue.
