Mild tremors shake Prakasam for second consecutive day

KURNOOL: Residents of Mundlamuru and Talluru in Prakasam district experienced mild tremors for the second day running on Sunday, causing fear and anxiety. The tremors, lasting about a second, prompted people to rush out of their homes. Similar incidents were reported in nearby villages, including Singannapalem and Marella.

On Saturday at 10:35 a.m., a loud noise accompanied the tremors. Kitchen appliances toppled, fans swayed, and the ground shook for two seconds, triggering panic. Residents evacuated homes, employees fled offices, traders deserted shops, and students left classrooms. Travellers also reported feeling the CC roads vibrate beneath their vehicles. While Sunday’s tremors were milder with no reported damage, the recurring seismic activity has heightened concerns.
Ministers Gottipati Ravi Kumar and Dola Veeranjaneya Swamy addressed the issue, discussing it with Prakasam Collector Thameem Ansaria. They directed consultation with the Disaster Management wing to investigate the frequent tremors in the Darsi constituency.
The ministers suggested involving scientists from the National Geophysical Research Institute (NGRI) if necessary to identify the root causes. District officials were instructed to prepare a comprehensive report, and the public was urged to remain calm while authorities work to resolve the situation.
