MP Seeks Swadesh Darshan 2.0 Funds for Development of Kondaveedu Fort

MP urges Centre to back heritage project under Swadesh Darshan 2.0

Vijayawada: Narasaraopet MP Lavu Sri Krishna Devarayalu has urged the centre to sanction funds under the Swadesh Darshan 2.0 scheme for urgent preservation and promotion of the iconic Kondaveedu Fort in Andhra Pradesh.

During a meeting in the national capital, the Telugu Desam floor leader submitted a representation to Union Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, seeking expedited approval of financial assistance for the Kondaveedu heritage project, located in the Chilakaluripet assembly segment of the Palnadu district.

The MP pointed out that the Andhra Pradesh government has already approved the Detailed Project Report (DPR) and forwarded it to the centre for consideration under Swadesh Darshan 2.0 scheme. The Kondaveedu project, estimated to cost approximately Rs 100 crore, will be implemented in phases.

Explaining Kondaveedu Fort’s significance, Krishna Devarayalu pointed out that the fort dates back to the 14th Century. It once served as the capital of the Reddy dynasty and stands as a symbol of the region’s rich cultural and historical legacy.

The Lok Sabha member sought at the fort site restoration works, conservation measures, enhanced visitor amenities, interpretation centres, and comprehensive tourism infrastructure. This would ensure heritage conservation and spur tourism growth, generate employment opportunities for local youth, and contribute to regional economic development.

Krishna Devarayalu asserted that the Kondaveedu Fort initiative will greatly benefit not just Palnadu district, but Andhra Pradesh as a whole.

According to the MP, union minister Shekhawat has responded positively to the request.
