MP Prabhakar Reddy Seeks Good Road Connectivity to Greenfield Ramayapatnam Port

Prabhakar Reddy sought road connectivity along two major routes.

Nellore: Nellore MP Vemireddy Prabhakar Reddy has requested the central government to strengthen connectivity to the Greenfield Ramayapatnam Port by approving two additional direct road links from National Highway 16.

The Lok Sabha member met union Road Transport and Highways minister Nitin Gadkari in New Delhi on Tuesday and discussed measures to improve access to the port for boosting industrial growth and trade in the region.

Prabhakar Reddy sought road connectivity along two major routes. The first is a 24-km road connecting Ramayapatnam Port to NH 16 and further up to NH 167BG. This will help access to cargo from southern and western regions, reducing congestion on NH 16 and limit dependence on rural and district roads.

The second route proposed by the MP is 15-km long connecting the port to NH 16 and thereon to NH 167B towards Ongole. This route would be crucial for cargo movement from northern and western hinterland regions and would support upcoming industrial clusters in these areas.

Prabhakar Reddy said these roads will become major feeder highways, facilitating cargo movement from Prakasam, Kadapa, Nandyal and Kurnool districts in AP and parts of Telangana.

The Lok Sabha member underlined that improved connectivity will significantly benefit granite exports from Chimakurthy, which are currently being transported to distant ports at higher cost. Direct and shorter access to Ramayapatnam Port would reduce logistics costs, cut turnaround time for shipments, and enhance foreign exchange earnings.

Prabhakar Reddy said promotion of parks, SEZs and warehousing facilities will lead to economic development of areas including Nellore and Prakasam districts.

It is said Nitin Gadkari responded positively, assuring that proposals will be examined and necessary action taken, including feasibility studies by NHAI and their inclusion in Bharatmala project.
