Moved by Blind Cricketers’ Plight, Pawan Extends Helping Hand

Deeply moved by the poor living conditions of their families, Kalyan promised immediate relief, like household appliances, daily essentials and clothing

VIJAYAWADA: Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan has extended a helping hand to the ‘blind women’ cricketers who recently emerged as world champions.

Deeply moved by the poor living conditions of their families, Kalyan promised immediate relief, like household appliances, daily essentials and clothing.

In an interaction with the blind women cricket team, its captain Deepika Kayan heard that the match fees were being used by them to feed their family members. Deeply moved, the deputy CM offered them direct assistance and long-term support to the families of Deepika who hails from Tambalahatti Thanda in Sri Sathya Sai district and Pangi Karuna Kumari from Vantla Mamidi, a tribal village in Alluri Sitarama Raju district.

These families received television sets, table fans, mixer-grinders, chairs, mats, steel plates, pressure cookers, electric irons, LED bulbs, utensils, blankets, pillows -- and also new clothes for all their family members apart from grocery items.

The relief material sent by Pawan Kalyan was distributed at Tambalahatti Thanda by Anantapur–Hindupur urban development authority chairman TC Varun and other Jana Sena leaders.

Karuna Kumari’s family received the aid at Vantla Mamidi through state folk arts and creative academy chairman Vampuru Gangulaiah, Visakhapatnam district library authority chairman Vannemreddy Satish Kumar, and Jana Sena representatives.

A generous Pawan also sanctioned two roads worth `6.2 crore for Deepika’s native place. Deepika had informed him that the roads leading to her village in Madakasira constituency were in a poor condition. Kalyan directed the Sri Sathya Sai district administration to act immediately.

Officials inspected the roads in Hemavathi panchayat limits and prepared estimates of `3.2 crore for the Hemavathi road and `3 crore for the Gunnehalli road. Both received administrative approval the same day.

The Deputy CM also directed the officials to construct new houses under the sports quota for both cricketers. His office would monitor the work. New furniture would be provided to these houses after their completion.
