Motorcyclist Swept Away In Kovvada Canal

Kakinada:A 58-year-old man, Medida Vijay Kumar of Annadevarapeta village in Tallapudi mandal, was swept away in the overflowing Kovvada canal on Thursday night. The incident occurred between Chityala in Gopalapuram mandal and Annadevarapeta.
According to sources, Vijay Kumar was travelling to Devarapalli on a motorcycle with a girl who was his relative when they encountered the overflowing canal following recent rains.
When a lorry approached from the opposite direction, he reportedly moved aside to give way. The strong flow swept him and his motorcycle into the canal. The girl managed to survive by holding on to a tree branch.
NDRF teams were searching for Vijay Kumar.
