Thunderstorms forecast

Visakhapatnam:The southwest monsoon advanced into more parts of Andhra Pradesh on Thursday, with weather conditions remaining favourable for its further progress over the next two to three days, according to Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA) managing director Prakhar Jain.
Jain said the monsoon is likely to extend into additional areas of Alluri Sitarama Raju, Parvathipuram Manyam, Vizianagaram and Srikakulam districts in the coming days.
He said a cyclonic circulation persists over the west-central Bay of Bengal adjoining the North Andhra coast, while another cyclonic circulation is active over South Coastal Andhra Pradesh and adjoining regions.
Under the influence of these systems, light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is likely on Friday in Polavaram, Anakapalli, Kakinada, Palnadu, Markapuram, Prakasam, Nellore and Rayalaseema districts.
Light rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is also expected at isolated places in the remaining districts. Gusty winds with speeds of 40-50 kmph may occur in some areas. Authorities have advised the public to remain alert and take necessary precautions.
Thunderstorms accompanied by gale winds lashed parts of NTR and Krishna districts and the Pendurthi area of Visakhapatnam on Wednesday evening, uprooting trees and power poles and causing waterlogging in low-lying areas, disrupting traffic movement.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the highest rainfall of 8 cm each was recorded at Tiruvuru in NTR district and Mangalagiri in Guntur district. Eluru in Eluru district, Ranasthalam in Srikakulam district and Bapatla in Bapatla district recorded 7 cm of rainfall each.
