VIJAYAWADA: Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) commissioner H.M. Dhyanchandra has directed officials to carry out monsoon response operations in three shifts daily to ensure effective flood management and sanitation during the rainy season.
He instructed Monsoon Response Teams to work in close coordination with the chief engineer, chief medical health officer, and chief city planner. Chief engineer R. Srinath Reddy will serve as the nodal officer for the operations.
On Wednesday, the commissioner conducted a field inspection at key locations, including Prakasam Barrage, Ratham Centre, Bandar Road, Benz Circle, and the National Highway Service Road from Benz Circle to Ramavarappadu. He reviewed sanitation and stormwater drainage preparedness on the ground.
Dhyanchandra emphasised that the Monsoon Response Teams (MRTs) must report to their designated points by 6 a.m., regardless of rainfall. He stated that teams should operate in three shifts each day and be fully equipped to respond to sudden rainfall events. "Water accumulation on roads must be cleared within ten minutes of the onset of rain," he stressed.
He also directed that all teams be provided with the required equipment in advance to prevent waterlogging and to ensure the smooth flow of traffic and pedestrian movement.
Zonal commissioner K. Shammi, assistant medical health officer Dr Gopal Krishna Nayak, and other field staff accompanied the commissioner during the inspection.
