VISAKHAPATNAM: The southwest monsoon is expected to advance over parts of the south Bay of Bengal, the Andaman Sea, and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands around May 16, the IMD Amravati said in its daily bulletin on Thursday.
The report further added that Wednesday’s well-marked low-pressure area over the southwest and adjoining west central Bay of Bengal persisted over the same region at 8.30 am on Thursday and the associated cyclonic circulation extended up to 5.8 km above mean sea level.
A trough runs from the centre of a well-marked low-pressure area over the southwest and adjoining west central Bay of Bengal to south central Maharashtra across north Tamil Nadu, Rayalaseema and north interior Karnataka at 0.9 km above mean sea level.
The north-south trough from southwest Madhya Pradesh to south Interior Karnataka across central Maharashtra and north interior Karnataka up to 1.5 km above mean sea level has become less marked.
Under the influence of these systems, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are likely at isolated places over Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam and Rayalaseema. Isolated areas in Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, and Rayalaseema will likely experience gusty winds of 40–50 kmph.
These weather conditions will prevail until May 18, the IMD report said.
