Modi Aims To Project Ambedkar As Global Icon: Madhav

Madhav criticised the previous Congress governments, accusing them of undermining Ambedkar’s ideals and “humiliating” him.

Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh BJP chief P.V.N. Madhav has said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi intends to present Dr B.R. Ambedkar as a global leader before the international community.

Speaking at a programme held to mark Constitution Day—observed on November 26, the day the Constituent Assembly adopted the Indian Constitution in 1949—Madhav said the Constitution drafted by Ambedkar continues to benefit all sections of society, especially women and workers.

He credited the BJP-led NDA government with bringing key reforms through six constitutional amendments during its tenure and asserted that the Centre is practising cooperative federalism while implementing Ambedkar’s vision for governance.

Madhav criticised the previous Congress governments, accusing them of undermining Ambedkar’s ideals and “humiliating” him. He alleged that the Congress once declared 75,000 votes invalid to defeat Ambedkar and that the party denied him the Finance portfolio he sought, assigning him Law instead.

Earlier, Madhav, along with party leaders and cadres, paid floral tributes to Ambedkar’s portrait at the party office. A copy of the Constitution was also placed and honoured with flowers.
