Minor Schoolboy Drowns In Polavaram Canal

VIJAYAWADA: A 12-year-old Class VI student drowned in the Polavaram Right Main Canal near Veerapanenigudem in Gannavaram mandal of Krishna district on Wednesday night. His body was recovered on Thursday.
According to Atkur police, the boy returned home from school on Wednesday evening, took `200 from his father’s shirt pocket without permission and went to tuition. After returning home, his father reprimanded him.
The boy then took his bicycle and went to a temple. His parents and family members searched for him, found him and asked him to return home. While returning, he reportedly rode his bicycle into the canal and drowned.
Police recovered the body and shifted it to the government hospital in Gannavaram for post-mortem examination. A case of suspicious death was registered and investigation is under way.
