Minor Fire in Vizag High-Rise; No Injuries

The Visakhapatnam fire department received an emergency call at 7:15 a.m., following which personnel and a skylift were rushed to the spot

Visakhapatnam: A minor fire broke out on the ninth floor of a high-rise apartment on Beach Road in Visakhapatnam on Wednesday morning, but no injuries were reported.

The Visakhapatnam fire department received an emergency call at 7:15 a.m., following which personnel and a skylift were rushed to the spot.

Regional fire officer Niranjan Reddy said residents had already begun trying to extinguish the flames using the building’s firefighting systems before the crew arrived. “The building was equipped with proper firefighting mechanisms, and the residents acted promptly to control the flames,” he said.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the fire started after an elderly woman lit a lamp during morning prayers, and the flame spread to a nearby cloth, igniting two rooms in the flat.

Firefighters acted swiftly to prevent the blaze from spreading to other flats in the high-rise.

City police commissioner Sankhabratha Bagchi later visited the apartment complex to review safety measures.
