Ministers Inaugurate Rs 17-Crore Development Works in Addanki

The two also inaugurated Kasturba Gandhi Girls’ Hostels built at a cost of Rs 1.64 crore

TIRUPATI: Energy minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar on Friday said the Addanki assembly constituency was steadily emerging as a model for development due to coordinated efforts of the state government led by chief minister Chandrababu Naidu.

Kumar, along with roads minister B.C. Janardhan Reddy, toured Ballikurava mandal in Addanki constituency and inaugurated or laid foundation stones for developmental works of `17 crore.

The ministers laid the stone for the Santamaguluru–Addanki road, to be constructed at a cost of `4 crore. A high-level canal built across the ABC canal at a cost of `2 crore was inaugurated, and a PHC constructed at Guntupalli with `50 lakh was opened.

The two also inaugurated Kasturba Gandhi Girls’ Hostels built at a cost of `1.64 crore. In addition, foundation stones were laid for the Pedajagarlamudi–Purimetla road, costing `8.80 crore.

Later, the ministers distributed bicycles to students at the Zilla Parishad High School in Ballikurava. Ravi Kumar said 248 bicycles were distributed at the school. Around 6,500 bicycles had been provided so far to students across the Addanki constituency with support from donors and CSR funds.

Kumar said the objective was to ensure that students did not discontinue their education due to lack of transport facilities.

The bicycles distributed at Ballikurava were sponsored from his personal company funds.

Referring to changes in the education sector, the minister said students were now receiving textbooks, two sets of uniforms, shoes and belts well before the start of the academic year. He also said that 16,300 teacher posts were filled in government schools following reforms introduced by minister Lokesh.

Janardhan Reddy said distribution of bicycles was helping students reach schools without difficulty and promoted their physical fitness. He thanked the CSR donors for their support to the initiative and said the state government was giving priority to education.

He said the works taken up under the previous government’s Nadu–Nedu programme were now being completed. He urged students to maintain discipline, work hard and avoid excessive use of mobile phones.
