Ministers Give Credit For New ASR-Bhogapuram Airport to Naidu
Janardhan Reddy and Atchannaidu slammed claims that YSR Congress had constructed the Bhogapuram airport, when the reality is that they stalled the airport works

Vijayawada: AP infrastructure minister B.C. Janardhan Reddy and Agriculture minister K. Atchannaidu have given credit for success of the new Alluri Sitarama Raju-Bhogapuram International Airport to Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.
Speaking to media persons here on Monday, the ministers made it clear that the development of ASR International Airport is part of AP’s development package after bifurcation of the undivided Andhra Pradesh.
They appreciated that as the CM wanted development of the north Andhra region in industrial, financial and tourism sectors, he came up with the project for the airport in 2014 itself. He selected Bhogapuram as the location for development of an international airport, as it is equidistant from Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram and Srikakulam.
Janardhan Reddy and Atchannaidu pointed out that as the existing airport in Visakhapatnam is under the control of Indian Navy and lacks scope for further development, Naidu proposed the new international airport project at Bhogapuram. They said that following the change of government in 2019, the Bhogapuram airport project stalled with no progress in works. This caused loss of valuable time in development of north Andhra region, they maintained.
The ministers said after the NDA government came back to power in 2024, CM Naidu had taken up the Bhogapuram airport project on a priority basis and made it a reality with the help of central government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. They pointed out that 95 per cent of works on the airport have been completed in just 18 months.
