Minister Ramprasad Reddy Takes Action Against DTC for Indecent Behaviour

Anantapur: Transport minister M. Ramprasad Reddy has initiated action against the deputy transport commissioner (DTC) Chandrasekhar Reddy of Kadapa district on Friday for indecent behaviour.

It is alleged that the DTC had been harassing a subordinate woman officer seeking sexual favours. Two days ago, he is said to have visited her house in Kadapa town when her husband had been on duty in the neighbouring district. Seeing him, the woman officer reportedly locked herself in her house and informed her husband.

On Thursday, while the DTC had been in a meeting at his office in CK Dinne, the woman officer’s husband accosted Chandrasekhar Reddy and beat him up. A video has gone viral of the officer falling at the feet of his attacker, seeking an apology, and urging the latter not to make an issue of it.

When the transport minister came across the viral video, he asked superior officers to shift the DTC to headquarters while an inquiry is conducted into the matter. Ramprasad Reddy spoke to the woman officer and her husband and assured stringent action against the DTC for his ugly behaviour.

People's organisations have demanded that a criminal case be registered against the transport officer and stringent action taken against him. CPI town secretary N. Venkata Shiva, AP Mahila Samakhya secretary V. Bhagya Lakshmi, human rights leader Gorla Reddy were among those who staged a protest at the DTC office.
