Mercury Crosses 45°C, Heatwave To Continue in AP

Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA) on Saturday issued a heatwave warning across the state as temperatures crossed 45°C in several districts.

Visakhapatnam: The Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA) on Saturday issued a heatwave warning across the state as temperatures crossed 45°C in several districts.

APSDMA Managing Director Prakhar Jain said the highest temperature of 45.8°C was recorded at Kanumolu in Krishna district, followed by 45.5°C at Makavarapalem in Anakapalli district. Temperatures above 42°C were reported in 95 mandals across 13 districts.
The authority advised people to avoid travelling between 11 am and 4 pm unless necessary and to carry drinking water while outdoors.
According to APSDMA forecasts, temperatures between 45°C and 46°C are likely in parts of Eluru, Krishna, NTR, Guntur, Bapatla, Palnadu, Markapuram, Prakasam and Nellore districts.
Temperatures ranging between 42°C and 44°C are expected in parts of Manyam, Alluri Sitharama Raju, Polavaram, Kakinada, Anakapalli, Konaseema, East Godavari, West Godavari and Tirupati districts.
Several areas in Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, Kurnool, Nandyal, Anantapur, Sri Sathya Sai, YSR Kadapa, Annamayya and Chittoor districts may record temperatures between 40°C and 42°C.
At the same time, APSDMA said a trough extending from Chhattisgarh and Odisha towards north Coastal Andhra could trigger light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning in parts of Nandyal, Anantapur, Sri Sathya Sai, YSR Kadapa, Annamayya, Manyam and Alluri districts.
Authorities advised farmers and cattle rearers not to stand under trees during thunderstorms and to move to safer shelters immediately.
The disaster management authority also issued a public health advisory asking elderly people, pregnant women and nursing mothers to remain indoors during peak heat hours.
People suffering from heart ailments, diabetes and blood pressure-related conditions were also advised to avoid exposure to extreme temperatures.
