MBBS First Year Classes To Begin on Sept 15 As per NMC Norms
NTR Health University counselling advances as 4,321 MBBS seats are allotted
Vijayawada: The MBBS first-year classes would commence from September 15 as stipulated by the National Medical Commission. Counselling for seat allotments in the colleges of NTR University of Health Sciences is nearing completion.
As for the admission process 2026-27 for MBBS under convener quota, phase-1 counselling for these seats was completed and final allotments were made on Sept. 2. Candidates would report at the allotted college on or before 4 pm on Sept 7. Accordingly, out of a total of 4,581 seats, 4,321 were allotted while 90 candidates did not report.
The second phase of counselling for All India Quota, which commenced on Sept 3, will be held up to Sept 11. After its completion, the second phase of state quota will be released thereafter by calling for fresh options from the candidates.
Candidates who opted for the minimum number of colleges will have less opportunity to get the seat in the open category. For this reason, the university has suggested to candidates to opt for a maximum number of colleges or for all available colleges, on a priority basis.
The university quoted instances in the first phase of counseling, where three candidates belonging to reservation category and who opted for fewer colleges got the seat in their preferred college in the reservation category. Those who have opted for more colleges got the seat in the open category.
Vice chancellor of Dr NTR University of Health Sciences Dr P Chandrasekhar along with government adviser Dr Lokesh Eadara and renowned academician Dr KV Rao, who addressed the media here on Tuesday, explained the importance of Artificial Intelligence in medical education, LMS System (Learning Management System) in monitoring and improving medical education and importance of research in the medical sciences to meet the demands of public health challenges.
In a statement, university registrar Dr T Sai Sudheer explained the reasons for proposing changes in GO-151 with reference to the practical difficulties which arose in 2025-26, when NMC granted permission for new medical colleges, renewal of permissions and enhancement of seats after commencement of counseling.
Consequently, the additional seats were available only for the candidates who took part in the later counselling sessions which, in turn, necessitated the issue of fresh notifications and web options, which was inconsistent with the existing one-time option policy.
The AP High Court, in its interim observations, permitted the candidates to participate in the process even though they did not opt for all the colleges. With this, the new GO-102 came into force benefitting the candidates to opt any number of colleges of their choice and cite priority.
Moreover, candidates can opt for any number of colleges of their choice during the further phases of the counselling.
