Massive Fire Destroys Rs 10 Crore Worth Cotton Stocks at Adoni Ginning Unit

Preliminary investigations suggest an electrical short circuit during ginning operations triggered the blaze.

Kurnool: A major fire broke out at the NDBL Cotton Industry on Siruguppa Road in Adoni on Thursday, destroying large quantities of cotton and causing losses estimated at over Rs 10 crore. This is the second major fire incident reported in Adoni’s cotton sector within three days.

Preliminary investigations suggest an electrical short circuit during ginning operations triggered the blaze. The fire spread rapidly, destroying nearly 10,000 quintals of kapas, 18,000 quintals of cotton seed, and over 100 cotton bales.
Though fire engines rushed to the spot, much of the stored material was already gutted. Workers managed to shift Cotton Corporation of India–related bales to safety, preventing further escalation. With the cotton season underway, the incident has severely impacted mill owners and labourers dependent on the unit.
Fire personnel deployed three engines and battled the flames for several hours before bringing the situation under control. AP Kuruva Corporation chairman Devendrappa, Adoni MLA Dr. P.V. Parthasarathi, TDP leader Umapathi Naidu and others inspected the unit and assured support. A case has been registered based on a complaint from mill owner Kubernath, and an investigation is underway.
