Martur Police Seize 198 Kg Ganja, Arrest Two From Karnataka

VIJAYAWADA: Martur police seized 198 kg of ganja and arrested two persons at the Bollapalli toll plaza on National Highway-16 in Bapatla district, dealing a major blow to an interstate drug trafficking racket. A mini truck used to transport the contraband was also confiscated.

Bapatla district superintendent of police B. Umamaheswar said the seizure was made in Crime No. 13/2026 registered at Martur police station under Sections 20(b)(ii)(C) read with 8(c) of the NDPS Act, 1985.

The arrested accused were identified as Manjunatha Eerappa (32), a halting driver, and Karthik Hanur Rajappa (19), a daily-wage labourer, both natives of Chamarajanagar district in Karnataka. They are relatives and hail from the same village.

According to the SP, the accused came into contact with a person from Tamil Nadu about six months ago near Hanur village. Acting on his instructions, they travelled to Tuni on January 27, where they handed over the vehicle to an unidentified individual. The vehicle was later returned with 99 packets of ganja, each weighing about two kilograms, totalling 198 kg.

Police seized the ganja, two mobile phones and the vehicle used for transportation. The accused were arrested at 10 am on January 30 and remanded to judicial custody.
