Many AP Towns Cross 40 degrees Celsius

Heatwave grips state; IMD warns of thunderstorms, gusty winds and slight relief from April 28

Visakhapatnam: Several towns across Andhra Pradesh recorded temperatures above 40 degree Celsius on Thursday, with Nandyal and Jangamaheswarapuram topping the charts at 42 degrees.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Cuddapah recorded 41.6 degree Celsius, Nandigama 41.3 and Kurnool 41. Kalingapatnam in Srikakulam district and Visakhapatnam city recorded 34 degrees each.

The IMD forecast indicated the likelihood of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning at isolated places over north coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam on Friday. Gusty winds with speeds ranging from 30 to 40 kmph are also expected in these areas.

From Saturday until April 28, thunderstorms with gusty winds are expected to affect north and south coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam and Rayalaseema.

IMD director Dr Stella S stated that temperatures are expected to drop by one to two degrees Celsius from April 28 onwards, with the cooler trend lasting for around five days.

The Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority warned that heatwave conditions would prevail in four mandals of Srikakulam, five in Vizianagaram, and eight in Parvathipuram Manyam district. Similar conditions are forecast in 12 mandals of the state on Saturday.
