Mantralayam Constable Carries Woman’s Body for a Kilometre on His Shoulders

Locals praised the constable’s presence of mind and dedication, while senior police officers also commended him, saying he showed responsibility and humanity well beyond the call of duty.

Kurnool: In a moving display of humanity, Constable Rangaswamy of Mantralayam went into the Tungabhadra River alone, recovered the body of an unidentified woman, and carried it on his shoulders for nearly a kilometre to the bank.

As per reports on Sunday, an unidentified woman died by suicide in the Tungabhadra river near the Mantralayam temple. Preliminary information suggests that she was a native of Karnataka and had come for the darshan of Sri Raghavendra Swamy and then allegedly jumped into the river.

When police reached the spot after receiving information, they faced a difficult situation. The body lay in the water, and none of the locals present came forward to bring it out.

It was then that Constable Rangaswamy, who serves in the Mantralayam Protocol wing, stepped in and went into the river by himself and brought the body out. He then lifted the woman’s body onto his shoulders and walked barefoot nearly a kilometre over rocks and uneven ground until he reached the bank.

Locals and Kurnool police officers commended him for showing responsibility and humanity well beyond the call of duty.
