Man Kills Two Daughters, Pushes Them Into Tungabhadra Canal

The family alerted Bommanhal police, who in turn informed the Karnataka police. During a search operation, the body of Chandrakala was recovered, while expert swimmers and fire service personnel continued efforts to trace Anasuyamma.

ANANTAPUR: A man allegedly killed his two minor daughters by pushing them into the Tungabhadra canal in Karnataka, suspecting his wife’s character.

According to sources, Kallappa and his wife Shilpamma, residents of Nemakal village in Bommanhal mandal of Anantapur district, have three children—two daughters and a son. Kallappa was reportedly suspicious of his wife’s character and frequently quarrelled with her, claiming that the daughters were not his.

Two days ago, he took the girls—Anasuyamma (11) and Chandrakala (9)—on the pretext of visiting a temple in a nearby area of Karnataka. However, he returned home alone on Tuesday. When questioned by Shilpamma and other family members about the children, he allegedly confessed to pushing them into the Tungabhadra canal.

The family alerted Bommanhal police, who in turn informed the Karnataka police. During a search operation, the body of Chandrakala was recovered, while expert swimmers and fire service personnel continued efforts to trace Anasuyamma.

Based on a complaint lodged by Shilpamma, Bommanhal police arrested Kallappa and further investigation is under way.
